About Glencore Coal

Glencore Coal’s Community Investment Program supports activities and programs that make a positive contribution to the communities in which we operate.

We are Australia’s largest coal producer with mining complexes across New South Wales and Queensland.

 

In New South Wales we operate in the Singleton, Muswellbrook and Mid-Western Local Government Areas.

 

To receive funding through this program, applicants must demonstrate how their initiative will make a positive contribution to these communities.

Community initiatives must fall within at least one of the following focus areas: health, environment, education and training, Indigenous and/or an identified local need.

2025 General Grants Rounds

Purpose

The Glencore Coal Community Investment program supports activities and programs that make a positive contribution to the communities in which we operate.

In NSW we operate in the areas of Singleton, Cessnock, Scone, Maitland, Muswellbrook and Mudgee/Gulgong.

To receive funding through this program, applicants must demonstrate how their initiative will make a positive contribution to the community. 

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for funding, the application must:

  • be from a not-for-profit incorporated organisation
  • primarily benefit at least one of the communities where we operate
  • demonstrate how the funding will directly benefit the local community
  • demonstrate the applicants’ expertise and ability to manage the proposed initiative in a professional manner
  • demonstrate financial sustainability, i.e. not become reliant on ongoing funding from Glencore
  • demonstrate a high level of community involvement i.e. be widely beneficial to the community
  • address a substantiated need in the community
  • have clear objectives
  • report back on the use of the funds by completing a post grant feedback form.

Examples of preferred projects include:

  • Education and training for community groups
  • Upgrading facilities and equipment for community groups
  • Contributions to charitable groups that provide social services such as diversionary centres, hostels and crisis accommodation, meals-on-wheels, aged care, kindergartens
  • Contributions to schools and other educational facilities for equipment or upgrading facilities.
  • Sponsorship of major community events: agricultural shows, rodeos, or carnivals that promote tourism to the area.

What will not be funded?

  • political parties, organisations, politicians or candidates for public office
  • individuals; including those seeking support for activities such as academic studies, competing in a sporting event, travel and accommodation or raising funds for another organisation
  • ‘for profit’ organisations
  • touring, senior, junior or representative sport teams
  • religious activities
  • any activities which are exclusive to a single faith community
  • conferences or speakers at conferences
  • accommodation, meals or travel expenses
  • production or distribution of advertising
  • partial funding of projects where remaining funding has not been secured
  • retrospective funding, ie projects/events/activities that are already complete.

Please DO NOT submit multiple funding applications to Glencore Coal sites for the one project. 

Choose only the site which is closest to your project location.  Multiple funding applications across our site grant rounds will not be considered.

What funding is available?

Maximum funding per community group is $2,500 so as to allow for multiple organisations to benefit from the program.

Project/Activity Completion

Projects must be completed within 12 months from the time of funding.

A project agreement will be entered into that will include providing a project report and/or evaluation.

Successful applicants must provide a full project evaluation acquittal via the Smarty Grants system when prompted to do so.
